On Thursday, Iraqi Finance Minister Faleh al-Sari revealed a real financial deficit that is hindering the completion of salary payments for employees, retirees, and social welfare beneficiaries, noting that the total monthly obligations for salaries amount to about 7 trillion and 800 billion dinars.
Al-Sari explained, during discussions with MP Haider Al-Mutairi of Ashraqa Kanoun, which addressed a number of financial and economic issues, that the Ministry of Finance had disbursed about 3 trillion dinars to a number of ministries in recent days, while liquidity is currently available estimated at about one and a half trillion dinars, which the ministry is working to increase to one trillion and 650 billion dinars, in preparation for releasing the salaries of retirees.
He added that the ministry will continue working to secure the necessary financial resources to pay the salaries of the remaining ministries and institutions, in light of a deficit estimated at about 3 trillion and 300 billion dinars.
In another matter, the Minister of Finance addressed the situation of holders of higher degrees and top graduates working in the Ministry of Education, some of whom have not received their salaries for about 10 months, directing the relevant authorities to resolve the issue and address the reasons for the delay in disbursement.
The discussions also addressed proposals aimed at absorbing graduates and providing job opportunities, especially graduates of the medical group, holders of higher degrees, top graduates and the rest of the graduates, by investing state resources and expanding the role of public clinics, universities and government hospitals.
