A member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Ribin Salam, revealed on Wednesday the existence of a “broad and strong parliamentary alliance aimed at impeaching the current Speaker of Parliament, Hebat al-Halbousi,” due to what he described as serious concerns documenting his failure to manage the session to grant confidence to al-Zaidi’s government.
Salam told the Information Agency that “there are multiple objections to al-Halbousi’s management of parliamentary sessions since the session to elect the president of the republic,” indicating that “the Speaker deliberately, according to him, passed resolutions that served specific political entities, which is inconsistent with the management of the country’s highest legislative institution.”
He added that “the session to grant confidence to the government witnessed unusual procedures, represented by keeping five ministries until the last moments of the session, without following the established mechanisms that stipulate voting on ministries sequentially according to their classification.”
The KDP member explained that “the Speaker allocated no more than half a minute for voting on five ministries, with a revote on two ministers, bringing the total number of votes to seven in just 30 seconds,” considering this “illogical and procedurally inaccurate.”
He pointed out that “counting the votes of the representatives within this short period is impossible even using technological means, including artificial intelligence,” stressing that “what happened raises suspicions of a deliberate attempt to disrupt the process of passing certain candidates from specific political blocs.”
The session to grant confidence to al-Zidi’s government sparked widespread controversy in political circles, amid accusations against the parliament’s leadership of managing the vote unprofessionally, while affected political forces are preparing to appeal to the Federal Court.
