Wafa Muhammad Karim, a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, revealed on Sunday the political blocs’ motives for submitting more than one candidate for the remaining ministerial posts in Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi’s government.
Karim told Al-Maalouma that “the political blocs submitting more than one candidate for each ministerial portfolio is part of agreements with the Prime Minister, aimed at creating the impression that the cabinet is not under the control of the parties and misleading public opinion.”
He added that “despite the parties sending a list of names to the Prime Minister to complete the cabinet, they remain the ones who ultimately decide which candidate they want to fill the ministerial position.”
He pointed out that “the process of completing the cabinet has been significantly delayed, despite the legal challenge to the voting mechanism in the confidence vote session, which the judiciary rejected.” He explained that “finalizing and completing the cabinet requires, above all, consensus among the political blocs.”
