Abdul Samad al-Zarkoushi, a member of the Coordination Framework, confirmed on Friday that the Framework is determined to hold an important meeting tomorrow to decide on its candidate for the next prime minister.
Speaking to Al-Maalouma, al-Zarkoushi said, “The Coordination Framework is the largest parliamentary bloc in the Council of Representatives, and therefore, the constitutional requirement obligates it to determine the identity of the candidate for the next prime minister.” He noted that “the Framework’s forces will hold an important meeting tomorrow in Baghdad with its leaders to discuss this matter.”
He explained that “current indicators suggest there are more than four candidates under consideration, and one of them will be chosen as the Framework’s official candidate, whose name will then be submitted to the President of the Republic to task him with forming the cabinet.”
He added that “the Framework’s forces are determined to adhere to the constitutional deadlines in presenting the candidate,” indicating that “we do not expect any delays in this process,” and emphasizing that “tomorrow’s meeting is very important, and we hope it will lead to an agreement on the candidate’s identity.”
