Former MP and member of the Coordination Framework, Baqir al-Saadi, reiterated on Sunday that the Coordination Framework forces will not withdraw their support for former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki for a third term as head of the next government.
Al-Saadi told Al-Maalouma that “all the leaks reported by some websites and newspapers about the Coordination Framework’s intention to change its position on al-Maliki as a candidate for prime minister are inaccurate, and we deny them completely,” emphasizing that “all the forces within the Framework will not withdraw their support for al-Maliki for a third term.”
He added that “Parliament and the political forces are the ones who choose the next prime minister, not any other country, and once the president is elected, he will invite al-Maliki to form the cabinet.”
Al-Saadi pointed out that “the ball is now in the Kurdish forces’ court to decide on their candidate for the presidency, which will clarify the path to forming the government through the participation of the political forces that won the elections.”
