MP Badr Mahmoud revealed on Thursday that political disputes are intensifying over the remaining vacant cabinet positions. He explained that the fierce competition between the “Azm” and “Taqaddum” alliances to secure the Ministry of Culture is the most significant obstacle hindering the completion of the cabinet and paralyzing the government’s ability to implement its announced programs.
Mahmoud told the Information Agency that “the political scene is witnessing a clear deadlock and a failure to reach final agreements regarding the vacant ministries due to each party clinging to its demands and partisan gains.” He emphasized that “the current conflict revolves primarily around the Ministry of Culture, with both Azm and Taqaddum insisting on their right to this portfolio and rejecting any proposed compromise.”
He added that “this political polarization and entrenched dispute has negatively impacted overall executive performance, as the government is paying the price for this power-sharing arrangement by delaying the completion of its ministerial team and postponing the implementation of strategic plans and development projects awaited by the Iraqi public.”
Mahmoud pointed out that “the continued power struggle between political forces will not serve the stability of the overall situation, but rather exacerbates administrative crises and gives a negative impression of the blocs’ commitment to their national promises.” He called on “the leaders of the two alliances to prioritize the public interest and adopt a conciliatory approach to quickly resolve this thorny issue, thus enabling Parliament to hold a decisive session to grant confidence to the new ministers and empower the government to address pressing service and economic issues.”
