The spokesman for the State of Law Coalition, MP Aqeel Al-Fatlawi, confirmed today, Monday, that completing the cabinet is of great importance, especially in light of the security and financial challenges that the country is going through during the current stage.
Al-Fatlawi told Al-Maalouma that “some important ministries need permanent ministers, especially the Ministries of Interior and Defense, which necessitates resolving the issue of their vacancies and not continuing to manage them by proxy in order to carry out their security and military tasks in the best possible way in light of the current exceptional circumstances surrounding the country.”
He added that “the coordination framework stressed during its last meeting the need to complete the cabinet after the Arbaeen pilgrimage holiday,” noting that “the current stage requires holding a session of the House of Representatives and naming the remaining ministers.”
Al-Fatlawi explained that “holding a parliamentary session and deciding on the vote requires a prior political agreement,” indicating that “political consensus would shorten the path and avoid a repeat of the scenario of the first session, which witnessed the presentation of candidates’ names without them obtaining the necessary votes, which led to a reconsideration of some nominations.”
The spokesman for the State of Law Coalition stressed “the need for a complete political agreement on the names of candidates for ministries before putting them to a vote in the House of Representatives,” stressing that “the formation of the government at the beginning was not related to the person of the minister as much as it was related to the completion of the cabinet in general, which led to overlooking some details related to the candidates and not scrutinizing their resumes sufficiently.”
Al-Fatlawi revealed that “there is a near-agreement regarding the nomination of a number of names to fill the remaining ministerial positions,” noting that “the results of this agreement will become clear in the coming days.”
He indicated that the delay in completing the cabinet would not last long, and that this matter would likely be resolved in the near future.
