An informed source revealed on Saturday the details of Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi’s meeting with the Coordination Framework forces.
The source told Shafaq News Agency that “the Prime Minister, during his chairmanship of a meeting with the leaders and commanders of the coordination framework, stressed the need to resolve all files, including completing the government cabinet and the file of restricting and regulating weapons, in order to enhance the sovereignty of the state’s decision and the stability of security in the country and the region.”
He added that “Al-Zaydi also stressed the need to support the work of the Quartet Committee concerned with negotiating with the factions to reach a final agreement on handing over weapons to the Popular Mobilization Forces according to the agreed time limits. He also reviewed the most important topics he discussed with the American administration during his recent visit to Washington, and the economic, political and security repercussions for the country if this is not possible.”
He added that “the political forces that have a postponed government entitlement (ministerial portfolio) have submitted lists of their candidates to the Prime Minister, awaiting an agreement from the other components (Sunnis and Kurds) to decide on their candidates for ministerial portfolios in order to set a date for a parliamentary session to vote on them as a single package, including the Deputy Prime Ministers.”
The Coordination Framework confirmed in a meeting last Friday night that June 30, 2027 is the agreed deadline for implementing the constitutional article concerning the handling of the weapons issue, calling on all parties to commit to a comprehensive truce.
