The head of the National Oath Movement, Abdul Rahman al-Jazaeri, confirmed on Sunday that corruption in Iraq has accumulated over many years. He also indicated that an international tribunal will convene on October 1st to examine corruption cases across various ministries. Speaking to
Al-Maalomah, al-Jazaeri said, “The corruption file has been accumulating for years, and during the last three years, indicators have emerged that necessitate extensive investigations.” He pointed out that “the appointment of Adnan al-Jumaili as Undersecretary of the Ministry of Refineries and the granting of broad powers to him is one of the cases that should be investigated and its circumstances revealed.”
He added that “the previous government, headed by Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, did not witness the dismissal or arrest of any minister, undersecretary, or director general, despite the existence of major corruption cases,” considering this to indicate the presence of networks and connections protecting those involved.
Al-Jazairi stated that “an international court will convene on October 1st to examine corruption cases within the ministries,” adding that “the court will be established by order of the United States, and Iraqi judges will work alongside judges from outside Iraq to address these cases.”
