Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced on Friday that it will hold a meeting on the Strait of Hormuz in Oman next Monday, with the participation of Iraq and the Gulf states.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry explained that Monday’s meeting will discuss the results of negotiations between Iran and Oman regarding the establishment of safe shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz.
The ministry added: We have reached an understanding with the Sultanate of Oman regarding temporary routes in the Strait of Hormuz, and we will make efforts to ensure the security of navigation.
The Strait of Hormuz has witnessed a halt in maritime traffic following the outbreak of military conflict between the United States and Iran on February 28, which led to severe disruptions in global energy markets.
Ship tracking data, reported by Reuters earlier on Friday, showed that commercial vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz fell to 7 ships on Thursday, compared to 11 ships the previous day, and significantly lower than the average traffic over the past ten days, which was 15 ships.
