Iraqi politician Mithal Al-Alusi responded on Saturday to statements by US President Donald Trump expressing optimism about Prime Minister-designate Ali Al-Zidi, stressing that the Iraqi people have the right to evaluate the results of the work of the next federal government.
Trump had recently praised the political movement taking place in Iraq, expressing his satisfaction with the coordinating framework that includes the active Shiite political forces assigning al-Zaidi to the position of Prime Minister.
In a post, Alousi addressed Trump, saying: “Take it easy, Mr. President, for the Iraqis alone – and according to the results of Mr. Ali’s government – will judge and decide whether we will remember you fondly, or whether you will be completely forgotten.”
