An analysis by the “Echo Iraq” observatory on Sunday showed that the stolen funds recovered by the state in what is known as “Operation Dawn” exceed the monthly salary expenses of a number of ministries and government agencies, and amount to the equivalent of the salaries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a whole month .

The observatory stated in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that the total cash amount of the recovered funds amounted to about 390.08 billion Iraqi dinars, after converting an amount of 141 million dollars into Iraqi dinars . Read more…

On Friday, Saad Al-Awadi, the deputy head of the National Approach parliamentary bloc, proposed a plan to secure the salaries of employees and retirees through the “digital dinar” and end the “cash crisis” in Iraq.

In a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, MP Al-Awadi said that this initiative is “a comprehensive economic initiative to address the cash liquidity crisis and ensure the stability of salary payments for employees and retirees, through the launch of the (digital Iraqi dinar) and to facilitate access to financial entitlements for employees without the need to deal with paper money.” Read more…

Official data showed a decline in total deposits and cash credit in Iraq up to the end of May 2026, while the private sector continued to take the largest share of bank financing.

According to data seen by Shafaq News Agency, total deposits at banks reached 104.296 trillion dinars by the end of May 2026, compared to 104.727 trillion dinars in April and 105.090 trillion dinars in March, reflecting a continued decline for the third consecutive month. Read more…

8-5-2026 Newshound Guru Jeff Right now Iraq is claiming they only have a currency shortage to pay salaries. They can pay all their other bills. I searched the news for two hours a day. I have not seen one article saying they can’t pay any other bills…They’re able to pay all their other bills, just not salary payments. Think about that carefully…Why is it they can’t only pay salaries? Because in a new budget period with a pending rate change they would have to adjust salary pay scales and approve the budget. To approve the budget, the new currency value has to exist and be in place…This suggests to me the rate changing is most likely in August. Read more…

A special survey conducted by Shafaq News Agency showed that the volume of Iraqi currency issuance rose to 113.560 trillion dinars in May 2026, an increase of about 13.761 trillion dinars, or 13.8%, compared to the end of December 2025, amid escalating financial pressures that prompted the government to seek liquidity to ensure the payment of salaries and basic expenses.
