On Wednesday, Fawaz Muhammad al-Dulaimi, a leader in the Azm Alliance, warned Muhammad al-Halbousi, head of the Taqaddum Alliance, of the repercussions of interfering with or rejecting the Coordination Framework’s candidate for the position of Prime Minister, considering it a position for the Shiite forces.
Al-Dulaimi told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “a Shiite-Sunni political movement has reached advanced stages in choosing the new prime minister, based on a consensus that there is no objection to Nouri al-Maliki assuming the position of prime minister, while also approaching the Kurds about the consensus to choose al-Maliki.”
He added that “Sunni forces warned the head of the Progress Alliance, Muhammad al-Halbousi, of the repercussions of interfering in the selection of the coordinating framework candidate through tweets whose purpose is to incite sectarianism, and rejecting al-Maliki is not within the purview of al-Halbousi and his party, and we should not interfere in the selection or rejection of the person.”
He indicated that “former Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani is out of the running for the premiership of the new government,” stressing that “the nomination of al-Maliki for the next prime minister will be discussed by the other political parties and alliances to formulate a unified position that will expedite the formation of the new government according to the established timelines.”
