Sudani announces 2030 as the date for the start of exporting Iraqi oil derivativesShafaq News – Baghdad
The outgoing Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, confirmed on Wednesday that 2030 will be the date for exporting Iraqi oil derivatives to the world, while noting the achievement of high rates in electricity production during the current government’s term.

Al-Sudani said, during a speech he delivered at the Energy Conference, which was attended by a correspondent from Shafaq News Agency, that “the energy sector no longer represents just a commercial and economic market, but has become a pivotal factor in building political, social and educational policies.”

He explained that his government, since taking office, has paid great attention to bringing about a qualitative transformation in the energy sector and investing all the potential that this vital sector provides, indicating that the government has realized the importance of energy in supporting the national economy, and has set a strategic goal of reaching the export of 40% of Iraqi oil derivatives by the year 2030.

Al-Sudani added that Iraq’s gas resources had been subjected to extensive flaring operations throughout the past years, but recent discoveries have contributed to raising the quantities of associated gas to about 132 million cubic meters, stressing the work to fully invest in this gas by 2028, through the efforts of those working in the oil sector.

On another note, Al-Sudani pointed out that “the highest rates of electricity production were achieved, with production reaching 29,000 megawatts, with the adoption of integrated plans in the transmission and distribution sectors through substations, which contributed to reducing the pressure on the national grid, especially during periods of high temperatures.”

He continued, saying that “the government plan included completing the procedures for establishing new stations to produce 57,000 megawatts, including 34 new stations in cooperation with specialized companies,” noting that “these efforts come within the framework of strengthening energy and water security, and Iraq’s launch towards implementing strategic projects that establish a new approach in resource management.”
