The US Embassy in Baghdad announced on Wednesday that Steven Fagin is returning to Iraq to assume the position of Chargé d’Affaires at the US Mission to Iraq, succeeding Joshua Harris, who has completed his duties in Baghdad.
The embassy said in a statement, which was received by Shafaq News Agency, that Fagin had previously served as the US ambassador to Yemen, and before that as chargé d’affaires and deputy chief of mission in Baghdad, in addition to the position of consul general in Erbil.
She added that Fagin has “extensive regional experience,” noting that this experience will contribute to strengthening relations between the United States and Iraq and moving towards “a future that achieves mutual benefit for the American and Iraqi people.”
The former US chargé d’affaires in Baghdad, Joshua Harris , had sent a farewell message to the Iraqis on the occasion of the end of his mission, in which he affirmed his country’s continued support for Iraq’s sovereignty and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation.
He said that the relationship between Washington and Baghdad focuses on preserving Iraqi sovereignty, defeating terrorism, enhancing security, developing economic and trade ties, and supporting partnerships with the private sector.
