MP Aqeel Al-Fatlawi, from the State of Law Coalition, confirmed that his coalition is still holding on to its main candidate for the position of Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Qasim Atta, while denying the validity of the names that have been circulated and leaked through the media.
Al-Fatlawi told Al-Maalouma that “the State of Law Coalition has added two new names to its list of candidates for the Interior Ministry portfolio, so that Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi now has three options,” explaining that “the final choice will be left to the Prime Minister to determine the person he sees as most suitable for the position.”
Regarding the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Al-Fatlawi explained that “three names have been put forward to fill the position without disclosing them,” noting that the nomination process is currently being conducted in secrecy until the appropriate name is decided.
He explained that “understandings were reached with the political forces that led to the adoption of a mechanism stipulating that the State of Law Coalition would present three candidates for each of the Interior and Higher Education portfolios, with the Prime Minister choosing the person he deems most suitable, before presenting them to the political blocs to reach a consensus on them, in preparation for presenting them to the House of Representatives for a vote.”
Regarding the date of the session to complete the cabinet, Al-Fatlawi confirmed that “the date for holding it is still undetermined,” explaining that “the matter now rests with the Speaker of Parliament, who must set the date for the session, while the political forces await the official announcement.”
