A leader in the State of Law Coalition, Arif al-Hamami, settled the controversy on Sunday regarding the coalition’s nominee for the Ministry of Interior.
Al-Hamami told Al-Maalouma, “The State of Law Coalition remains clear in its nominee for the Ministry of Interior, which is Major General Qasim Atta, and there has been no change to that position so far.”
He added, “Our nominee received enough votes in yesterday’s parliamentary session to approve Ali al-Zaidi’s government, but what transpired was a circumvention of this right.”
He pointed out that “what happened raises many questions, especially since the nominee possesses experience and competence within the security establishment,” indicating that “there are several questions that require clear answers.”
Al-Hamami confirmed that “Qasim Atta remains the State of Law Coalition’s nominee for the Ministry of Interior, and no official decision has been issued to change or replace him with any other person so far.”
