Imran Karkoush, a member of the State of Law Coalition, revealed today, Thursday, that there are new political understandings within the coordination framework to pass the same names within the ministerial cabinet, which did not obtain the approval of Parliament during the confidence vote session.
Karkoush told Al-Maalomah that “the parties within the framework agreed to pass the cabinet after the Eid al-Adha holiday, but no date was set for holding the session,” suggesting that the matter would remain “open until a final agreement is reached between the political parties.”
He added that “the last meeting of the coordination framework put things back on track after what he described as the deliberate violation of political agreements during the confidence vote session by the Speaker of Parliament, which caused a clear political dispute and prompted the State of Law Coalition to file appeals with the Federal Court regarding the illegality of some of the session’s clauses.”
Karkoush pointed out that “there were many observations recorded regarding Al-Halbousi’s management of the session,” most notably “the voting mechanism and the counting of votes,” indicating that “the parliament’s presidency has not yet issued any clarification regarding those observations.”
He pointed out that “one of the most prominent indicators recorded regarding the management of the confidence session was the Speaker of Parliament’s refusal to accept a vote on one of the ministers, despite Prime Minister Ali al-Zidi’s confirmation that he had obtained the necessary votes to gain confidence,” considering this “a clear reversal of the political understandings.”
The parliamentary session to grant confidence to al-Zidi’s government witnessed widespread political objections regarding the way it was managed by the Speaker of Parliament. Political forces accused al-Halbousi of deliberately obstructing the approval of certain cabinet nominees due to political disagreements and stances, including settling old scores with political opponents who refused to grant the leader of the Progress Party the position of Speaker of Parliament.
