The German company Euronex announced on Friday that it will organize direct flights between Baghdad and Berlin, starting next December.
A statement from the company said that “starting from December 10, the German company Euronex, one of the formations of the aviation giant Lufthansa, will organize four weekly direct flights from Berlin and the city of Düsseldorf (western Germany) to the Iraqi capital Baghdad, with two flights from Berlin and two flights from Düsseldorf per week,” noting that “the new flights will be added to the existing flights that connect Erbil directly to various German cities.”
He added that “this increase comes as a result of the rising number of air travelers from Germany to Iraq, within what is known as the ‘Visit Friends and Relatives’ program organized by Euronex.”
He added that “the company is entering the Iraqi air transport market, taking advantage of the shortage of flights that connect Baghdad directly to Europe, which enhances its position as an international carrier in the Middle East, after launching about 38 new routes in Europe and the Middle East, in addition to also benefiting from the movement of businessmen from both countries, after the boost that the business sector received after Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi’s visit to Germany, and his invitation to German businessmen to strengthen their businesses in Iraq, and his pledge to remove the administrative and bureaucratic difficulties in front of them, and to lift the requirement for them to obtain prior entry visas, and to grant entry visas upon arrival at the airport, in order to reduce time and routine procedures.”
He emphasized that “these flights will provide an opportunity for more than half a million Iraqis residing in Germany to connect with their relatives and friends between Iraq and Germany, strengthening social and cultural ties between the two countries.”
