A responsible source revealed on Sunday that directives have been issued to all Iraqi airports prohibiting officials from the previous government of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani from traveling until further notice, due to ongoing investigations into corruption cases.
The source told the Information Agency that “directives have been issued to all Iraqi airports to prevent officials from al-Sudani’s government from traveling until investigations are completed with a number of detainees who have given confessions related to senior officials accused of corruption. Arrest warrants have been issued for some of these officials, but they have not yet been executed pending completion of procedures by the relevant authorities.”
The source added that “the decision excludes official delegations participating in conferences and events outside Iraq, provided they are provided with an official letter issued exclusively by the Prime Minister’s office.”
The source indicated that “the travel ban came hours after a force from the Counter-Terrorism Service carried out a security operation inside the Green Zone, which resulted in the arrest of a number of members of parliament and political figures on corruption charges.”
