Signing the contract to land the third submarine cable to Iraq to pass internet capacitiesShafaq News/ The General Company for Communications and Informatics, one of the formations of the Iraqi Ministry of Communications, signed, today, Thursday, a contract to launch the 2Africa pearl marine cable with the Gulf Submarine Cables Company, owned by the Saudi STC Company, to pass Internet capacities from the world through the Arab Gulf countries and from there to Iraq all the way to Europe.

The Minister of Communications, Hiyam Al-Yasiri, said in her speech on the sidelines of signing the contract, that Iraq’s landing of the 2Africa (Pearl) submarine cable in Al-Faw, which passes through 47 global and Gulf landing stations, will contribute to strengthening Iraq’s position as a safe corridor in the region for passing and marketing Internet capacities and incoming and outgoing international communications. From Iraq, in partnership with the international companies contributing to the project, which are (STC Saudi Arabia – Vodafone – MTN – Facebook – Chinese Mobile).

Al-Yasiri announced the fulfillment of the promises she made to strengthen Iraq’s geographical position and maximize its revenues, as the amount of transit Internet capacities passing through Iraq through the Civilizations Road Project exceeded (one terabit), which is a large number compared to the short period of time in which it was completed, which is the past six months.
