Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Iraqi Prime Minister-designate Ali al-Zaidi on Saturday on his appointment to form the new government.
Sharif said in a post on the “X” platform, which was followed by Shafaq News Agency: “I congratulate my brother Ali al-Zaidi on his appointment as Prime Minister of Iraq, and I wish him success in bearing this important responsibility.”
He added, “Pakistan looks forward to working closely with the new Iraqi government to strengthen bilateral relations and achieve our shared aspirations for peace, stability and prosperity in the region.”
The ruling Shiite coalition forces in Iraq announced last Monday the nomination of Ali al-Zidi for the premiership, after Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and Nouri al-Maliki withdrew from the race for the position.
