Mark Savaya, the US President Donald Trump’s envoy to Iraq, held a meeting at the White House on Friday with US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Director of Counterterrorism Sebastian Gorka, and discussed with them his upcoming visit to Iraq.
“We agreed that the issues discussed will be addressed during my upcoming visit to Iraq, where I will engage with the appropriate decision-makers to address the situation on the ground in the best interests of the Iraqi people,” Savaya said in a statement.
On Thursday, Savaya announced a comprehensive review of suspicious payments and financial transactions in Iraq with the U.S. Treasury Department and the Office of Foreign Assets Control, along with discussions of potential sanctions targeting networks that undermine financial integrity and fund terrorist activities.
