The General Company for Iraqi Ports will inaugurate next Saturday the submerged port tunnel linking Umm Qasr Port and Al-Faw District, in a move considered one of the important strategic projects in the maritime transport and infrastructure sector in the country.
A source at the ports told Shafaq News Agency that “the opening will witness crossing through the tunnel on foot and by car, in an official event to be held at four o’clock in the afternoon from the direction of Umm Qasr port towards Faw, amidst the presence of a number of officials and extensive media coverage.”
The source added that “the project comes within the efforts to develop the Iraqi port system and enhance logistical connectivity between its vital facilities, which contributes to supporting the movement of transport and trade in the southern region and enhancing the efficiency of the maritime transport infrastructure.”
In this context, a correspondent for Shafaq News Agency reported that the General Company for Iraqi Ports will invite citizens to cross the tunnel in their vehicles or on foot as part of the opening event.
