Former MP Abbas Sarout confirmed on Monday that a political crisis is looming on the Iraqi scene if the cabinet formation of Ali al-Zaidi’s government is not finalized after the Eid al-Adha holiday.
Sarout told Al-Maalouma, “The session to vote on Ali al-Zaidi’s government included the failure to vote on a number of ministerial portfolios, including sovereign ones, which raises many questions.” He pointed out that “what happened is worrying about a political crisis that may materialize in the coming period if this issue is not resolved.”
He added, “There are clear disagreements among the political forces, and if real solutions are not found to contain them, we will inevitably face a political crisis.” He indicated that “it seems there is a decision not to vote on some ministerial portfolios, and this will have more pronounced repercussions in the coming period.”
Sarout concluded by saying, “Failure to address the matter and finalize the cabinet formation after the Eid holiday will lead the country into a political crisis that is looming on the horizon within the Iraqi scene.”
