In an analysis of the trends toward diversifying the national economy, the Prime Minister’s financial advisor, Mazhar Muhammad Salih, explained on Tuesday that strengthening the role of the private sector is a fundamental pillar in the transition toward a more diversified and sustainable economy.
Saleh told Al-Furat News Agency that “targeting raising the private sector’s contribution to more than 50% of GDP by 2035 means that the process of diversifying national income will increasingly depend on the expansion of non-oil economic activity, which makes the Private Sector Development Council a key institutional tool in consultative economic decision-making and policy-making that supports economic diversification.”
He pointed out that “strengthening the role of the private sector will lead to expanding the productive base of the national economy, which will be reflected in diversifying sources of public revenues and reducing dependence on oil revenues.”
