MP Ahmed al-Fatlawi, a member of the Reconstruction and Development bloc, affirmed on Wednesday his bloc’s unwavering support for the nomination of Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, for the position of Prime Minister. He stressed that in the event of any changes, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani is the only alternative.
Al-Fatlawi told the Information Agency, “The Reconstruction and Development bloc remains committed to nominating Nouri al-Maliki for the premiership of the next government,” noting that “this position stems from the bloc’s vision for stability in the coming phase.”
He added, “The political direction within the coordination framework is clear, and if proceeding with al-Maliki’s nomination proves impossible, there will be no alternative other than Mohammed Shia al-Sudani,” explaining that “al-Sudani possesses the necessary acceptance and majority among the forces within the coordination framework to assume the task.”
He clarified that “the current understandings focus on resolving the issue of the top leadership positions in order to proceed with forming a strong government capable of confronting the challenges,” emphasizing that “his bloc will support any option that enjoys the consensus of the Shia political establishment.”
