Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Qubad Talabani, affirmed on Sunday that achieving economic stability requires diversifying income sources and not relying on oil as the sole source of revenue, stressing the need to transform slogans of reform and change into concrete practical steps.
During his participation in the Delphi Economic Forum held in Sulaymaniyah, Talabani said that the city has played an influential role in the political, economic, cultural and intellectual fields at the regional level, stressing that development should include all cities and regions, and not be concentrated only in the capitals.
He added that providing equal opportunities to different governorates and regions is essential for achieving balanced development and sustainable stability, noting that relying on oil alone is no longer sufficient to guarantee a stable economic future.
He explained that the region needs to develop multiple economic sectors and create diverse sources of income capable of facing economic challenges and changes, stressing that true reform is measured by the results achieved on the ground and not by political slogans.
Talabani pointed out that the Kurdistan Region is an active and vital partner in Iraq, and has the ability to contribute more to the economic development process by strengthening cooperation and integration with the federal government and taking advantage of available opportunities.
In another point, he stressed the importance of empowering women and enhancing their presence in decision-making positions and leadership institutions, given their essential role in supporting development and stability.
He also pointed out that the President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Bafel Talabani, is working to strengthen trust between the various political forces, considering that building trust is a fundamental step to address disputes and create the right atmosphere for understanding and cooperation.
Talabani concluded his speech by stressing that the next stage requires more joint work and economic and developmental reforms, along with strengthening trust and political understanding in order to achieve stability and prosperity in Kurdistan and Iraq.
