Shafaq News/ On Thursday, an official source in the Presidency of the Republic denied what was reported by the media about the fact that the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, had made a phone call with President Barham Salih, asking the latter to withdraw from the nomination for the post of President of the Republic for a second term.
An official source in the Presidency of the Republic said in a statement circulated to the media, including Shafak News Agency, today, “What was reported by some news websites about Al-Sadr’s contact with Saleh about the presidential nomination file, is fabricated and baseless news.”
And the media had circulated news that Al-Sadr offered, in a telephone conversation with Barham Salih, last night, to withdraw his candidacy from the presidency in exchange for giving him the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs in the upcoming national reformist majority government, and the latter strongly rejected.
