Political blocs are rearranging their strategies... and alternatives for rejected candidates will be considered after the holidayShafaq News – Baghdad
The head of the “Design” coalition, Amer Al-Fayez, confirmed on Saturday that the completion of the ministerial cabinet of Prime Minister Ali Al-Zidi’s government will take place after the Eid holiday, either through an emergency session or after the end of the legislative holiday of the House of Representatives.

Al-Fayez told Shafaq News Agency that the political forces and blocs are holding internal meetings to discuss the names nominated to fill the remaining positions within the blocs’ entitlement, indicating that the session to vote on the candidates may be held in an emergency session called for by the House of Representatives during the legislative recess.

He added that the meetings of the Coordination Framework forces are suspended until after the Eid al-Adha holiday.

In addition, an informed source revealed to Shafaq News Agency that the political forces whose candidates did not gain the confidence of the House of Representatives are studying dozens of CVs of alternative candidates.

The source explained that re-nominating the previous names that did not gain the support of Parliament seems difficult, suggesting that they will be replaced by new candidates, provided that the political blocs submit three candidates for each portfolio to the Prime Minister, so that he can choose the most suitable candidate from among them before submitting him to the House of Representatives for a vote.

He added that meetings between political forces are still ongoing to finalize the formation of the government cabinet.

On May 14, 2026, the Iraqi parliament granted confidence to the government of Ali Faleh al-Zaidi and its ministerial program, and voted on 14 ministers out of 23, while nine portfolios remained postponed due to disagreements over names and quotas, including the Interior, Defense, Higher Education and Planning ministries.

Earlier, a political source revealed to Shafaq News Agency that an agreement within the coordination framework grants the Prime Minister the authority to choose candidates for the Ministries of Interior and Defense from lists that include ten names with security and military experience, stressing that the names currently circulating are inaccurate.
