On Saturday, the Parliamentary Bloc considered the measures of the government of resigned Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, along with popular demonstrations and protests, as weakening the prestige of the state, the military and the law.
“The Mahdi bears the responsibility for the escalation that accompanied the demonstrations and popular protests because of the lack of law enforcement,” said the bloc’s deputy, Asaad Al-Murshidi, in a press statement, noting that “the decision to withdraw weapons from the security forces and leave the demonstrations to the terrorists has weakened the prestige of the state, the military and the law.”
He added that “the decision to withdraw the weapons is a mistake that led to the escalation of demonstrations and the exploitation of the matter by saboteurs to carry out sabotage operations such as burning government departments, cutting off roads and harming public money,” noting that “Abdul-Mahdi’s decisions regarding the protests are weak and do not rise to the level of responsibility.”
It is noteworthy that the government of resigned Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi had ordered, earlier, the security forces surrounding the demonstration squares and popular protests after taking up arms to prevent their contact with the demonstrators.
