MP Mudhar al-Karawi revealed on Sunday that there is a parliamentary movement aimed at lifting the ban on the Telegram application within the country.
Al-Karawi told Al-Maalouma, “The direct reasons for blocking the Telegram application are still unknown, but it came by a government decision.” He pointed out that “there is a parliamentary movement to pressure for lifting the ban, especially in light of the lack of an official explanation for the reasons behind this decision, which has harmed broad segments of society.”
He added that “the application is an important communication channel, especially in educational institutions, as well as a means of communication between many groups.” He indicated that “this week will witness extensive discussions in this direction, with an invitation to the government to explain the reasons for the ban.”
Al-Karawi explained that “the next few days will be clearer, and a decision may be made to restore the application to its normal status,” stressing that “the goal is to guarantee the right to communication while respecting legal and regulatory requirements.”
