The Parliamentary Legal Committee confirmed, today, Saturday, that there is a rapprochement between the political blocs on issues, including the timetable and the preparation of logistical matters to conduct elections and technical and the completion of the offices of the Commission.
Member of the Parliamentary Committee, Diamond Fadel, said: “Discussions regarding the election law are still going on,” noting that “a meeting was held under the chairmanship of the President of Parliament, heads of political blocs and electoral affairs experts on this issue, as well as the legal committee to reach a final formula on the districts.”
Fadel added that “there are several proposals discussed, including bringing together several districts,” noting that “the issue of multiple constituencies was discussed to reach a mechanism as quickly as possible, in order to hold elections in the near future.”
She pointed out that “agreement on all matters does not exist, but there is still some divergence of views,” explaining that “there is more convergence with regard to other topics, which are the timetable, the preparation of logistical and technical matters, the completion of UNHCR offices, and the creation of material requirements.”
The Speaker of the Parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi, had discussed last Wednesday with the heads of political blocs and the Parliamentary Legal Committee to complete the electoral district schedule, and to prepare the requirements and conditions necessary to conduct the elections.
