Parliamentary Defense opens the Sudanese deals file in WashingtonShafaq News/ The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee revealed on Saturday its intention to conduct an investigation into the file of arms contracts concluded by Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani during his recent visit to Washington.

Committee member Muhammad Al-Rumaithi told Shafaq News Agency, “The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee will open the armament file in the Ministry of Defense and the contracts that Iraq signed to purchase warplanes, armored vehicles, and tanks, in addition to purchasing weapons and equipment to arm the Iraqi army.”

He added, “The committee will host during the coming period the Minister of Defense, the Director of Contracts and Armament, and the advanced staff at the Ministry of Defense to discuss the contracts recently signed to arm the Iraqi army, including the file of the American F-16 aircraft.”

Earlier, the head of the Security Media Cell, Tahseen Al-Khafaji, said that during the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani to the United States, Iraq contracted to purchase 21 helicopters to enhance the capabilities of the Iraqi army.

During his visit to Washington, Al-Sudani met with the CEO of Lockheed Martin, which is responsible for manufacturing F16 aircraft.

He stressed, according to a statement issued by his office, the importance of the company’s commitment to opening military aircraft maintenance centers and providing spare materials for them inside Iraq. Given the importance of this matter regarding the qualification of Iraqi aircraft to maintain the security of the country.

For his part, the company’s president expressed his understanding and readiness to respond to the requests of the Iraqi government regarding the implementation of the terms of contracts for the supply of aircraft to Iraq, and the provision of all related requirements.
