The head of the Al-Faw-Zakho bloc, MP Amer Abdul-Jabbar, confirmed on Sunday that the previous government saddled the current government with massive debts due to corruption, poor planning, and mismanagement. He called for urgent plans to rescue the country from the debt crisis.
Abdul-Jabbar told Al-Maalomah News Agency that “the previous government left behind significant financial burdens and debts that weighed heavily on Ali al-Zaidi’s government.” He explained that “corruption, poor planning, and mismanagement played a fundamental role in exacerbating the financial situation and increasing the state’s obligations.”
He added that “continuing to spend without adopting well-studied economic plans will complicate the financial crisis and increase the debt burden,” urging Ali al-Zaidi’s government to “conduct a comprehensive review of financial obligations and debts and identify the shortcomings that led to their accumulation.”
He pointed out that “Iraq possesses significant economic resources and potential, but mismanagement and corruption have prevented their proper investment,” stressing the need to “shift from a policy of reckless spending to economic and productive plans capable of providing sustainable financial resources.”
He called on the government to “develop clear plans to rescue the country from the debt crisis, reduce financial waste, and hold those responsible for corruption and mismanagement accountable,” stressing that “addressing the financial situation requires bold decisions and genuine reforms, not piecemeal solutions.”
