The House of Representatives announced today, Wednesday, the opening of nominations for the position of President of the Republic, specifying the timeframes and legal conditions that must be met by the candidates, based on the provisions of the applicable law.
The council stated in a statement, a copy of which was received by Al-Maalomah, that applications will be accepted from nine in the morning until three in the afternoon on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, Sunday, January 4, 2026, and Monday, January 5, 2026.
The statement added that the legal conditions for candidacy, according to Article (1) of the law, stipulate that the candidate must be Iraqi by birth and of Iraqi parents, of full legal capacity, and have completed forty years of age, and enjoy a good reputation and political experience, and be known for integrity, uprightness, justice and loyalty to the homeland, and must have a recognized primary university degree from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and must not have been convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude, and must not be subject to accountability and justice procedures or any procedures that replace them.
The council affirmed that this step comes within the framework of constitutional preparations for the presidential election, stressing the necessity for candidates to adhere to the specified conditions and procedures to ensure the process proceeds within the legal framework.
