On Saturday, informed government sources revealed details of the second phase of the campaign to pursue those involved in corruption cases, which includes pursuing real estate and residential complexes in the United States, Europe and Turkey belonging to officials, while indicating that this phase includes the Ministries of Health, Oil and Electricity.
Sources told Shafaq News Agency that “the second phase of the Dawn Campaign has completed all its legal procedures, and the files in some ministries have been reviewed, which are backed by some influential directors in the Ministries of Health, Oil and Electricity.”
She added that “these files were studied by the special committee for combating corruption, which is supervised by the Prime Minister, and the stolen funds were tracked, which some were keen to invest in purchasing important real estate in the United States, Europe and Turkey, as those involved in stealing public money were keen to establish residential complexes with distinguished specifications to invest in them as investment projects that achieve large profits.”
She added: “The countries where these properties are located have been contacted, and there are doubts about their origins. They in themselves constitute a huge fortune in hard currency that has been drained from the state’s resources, and the matter will be dealt with legally.” She explained that “there is a new list of names of those involved in corruption, some of whom are well-known figures, and others who have influence in some state institutions, as the nature of contracts that are marred by loopholes or suspicions of corruption is sometimes passed by those close to decision-makers because they enjoy unlimited powers.”
He revealed that “the government is currently studying a draft law proposal (Where did you get this from?), and if its discussion is completed within the government and it is passed in the Cabinet meetings, it will be referred to the House of Representatives for approval to become an effective law.”
A wave of arrests was launched at dawn last Sunday, targeting political officials, members of parliament, and businessmen as part of an anti-corruption campaign, which Al-Zaydi described during a cabinet meeting as the “first phase” of broader measures to recover public funds, while tasking oversight bodies with receiving any indications related to cases of corruption or negligence in state institutions .
The Federal Integrity Commission stated that the arrest warrants are being carried out in accordance with the law and under the supervision of the judiciary. According to judicial sources, the investigation data indicates that new files will continue to be opened that may affect other figures in the coming period, as part of efforts to recover public funds and prosecute those involved inside and outside Iraq.
