Oil Minister Bassem Mohammed Al-Abadi confirmed on Friday evening that work is underway to address the shortage of gasoline, and indicated that shipments of gasoline will arrive in Iraq soon.
The Ministry of Oil said in a statement that the Minister of Oil chaired a meeting of the crisis cell, in the presence of the ministry’s undersecretaries, advisors and general managers of the oil sector formations, to follow up on the latest developments in oil supply and preparation, and to ensure the stability of the local market.
She added that the minister stressed during the meeting the availability of petroleum products, assuring citizens that the ministry is working continuously and around the clock to secure their needs.
Al-Abadi explained that the temporary shortage of gasoline is being addressed, noting that additional shipments of gasoline will arrive soon, which will contribute to ensuring stable supply and meeting the needs of citizens.
He added that the rate of gasoline consumption is about 33 million liters per day and rises to about 38 million liters per day when there is a state of anxiety among citizens, noting that the ministry is continuously monitoring the movement of preparation and supplies, and is taking the necessary measures to secure petroleum products and enhance the stability of the local market.
He added that crude oil exports were around 250,000 barrels per day when the government was tasked with this, while crude oil production currently exceeds 3 million barrels per day, stressing that the ministry continues to develop the extraction, refining, distribution and gas sectors, and to maximize the benefit from the oil wealth.
The Minister of Oil stressed the importance of continuing to work to secure the needs of citizens and enhance public revenues, which contributes to supporting the budget and strengthening the national economy.
