Oil Minister Bassem Mohammed Al-Abadi stressed on Saturday the need to expedite the procedures for purchasing oil tankers for Iraq.
Al-Abadi said, during his chairmanship of the Ministry’s Advisory Board session: There is a need to purchase oil tankers, because this issue has a significant impact on supporting Iraqi oil export operations and generating revenues that support the state budget.
The minister added, according to a statement issued by the ministry and received by Shafaq News Agency, that the ministry has two important goals at the present time and in light of the Strait crisis, the first being the issue of oil exports, stressing that the ministry has achieved remarkable success in the past month and the current month, at rates equivalent to the previous rates before the crisis.
He added that the extraction sector in the ministry has major tasks, including rehabilitating wells and connecting them to increase production, as well as urging companies operating oil fields to fulfill their contractual obligations regarding field development and increased production, directing the need to investigate cases of malfunction, while emphasizing the importance of providing support to companies that work according to development timelines.
He explained that the second goal is to develop the refining sector despite the age of the Iraqi refineries and the periodic maintenance work, stressing the need to double the work, continuous follow-up, and conduct engineering tests for the facilities, and that they be monitored periodically through temporary maintenance and that it be done in coordination with the relevant departments in the ministry to ensure the continuity of production, to meet the quantities of local consumption of oil derivatives.
He stressed the importance of monitoring the strategic stockpile and increasing its rates, directing the companies concerned in the ministry to maximize stockpile quantities to avoid any emergency, stressing that the rest of the companies should have a supportive role for the ministry’s activities.
He also pointed to the importance of the gas sector, and the need to follow up on projects related to the investment of associated gas, and the development of gas fields within the plans set by the ministry to support the energy sector in the country, as well as to support the national economy.
