Oil for reconstruction: A parliamentary proposal to attract global companies and transfer technology

The spokesperson for the Badr parliamentary bloc, Hamid al-Moussawi, called on the government Wednesday to adopt an oil-for-reconstruction mechanism as a solution to overcome economic challenges and accelerate the implementation of strategic projects in the country.
Al-Moussawi told the Information Agency that “Iraq possesses significant oil resources, and a portion of these could be invested in reconstruction and infrastructure projects, instead of burdening the budget with additional financial obligations.”
He added that “adopting an oil-for-reconstruction program would attract major foreign companies with expertise and specialization to implement vital projects, particularly in the energy, infrastructure, and services sectors.”
Al-Moussawi pointed out that “the current stage requires unconventional economic solutions and utilizing national resources in a way that achieves development and maintains financial stability,” emphasizing the need to establish controls that guarantee Iraq’s rights and ensure the best economic return from these projects.
He stressed that “attracting international companies and transferring technology and expertise to Iraq can contribute to accelerating reconstruction and creating job opportunities, while simultaneously addressing the repercussions of the economic crisis.”
