The Ministry of Natural Resources in the Kurdistan Region announced on Thursday that an agreement had been reached with the federal government to resume exporting the region’s oil through the Turkish port of Ceyhan.
The ministry said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that “a delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government, accompanied by representatives of oil production companies operating in the region, visited Baghdad and held meetings with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi and Oil Minister Basim Abadi.”
She added that “the meeting resulted in an agreement to resume oil exports from the Kurdistan Region through the port of Ceyhan, with the producing companies commencing oil extraction and transportation operations through the Kurdistan-Ceyhan pipeline.”
The ministry indicated that “the federal government will bear responsibility for attacks targeting oil fields within Iraqi territory.”
It is worth noting that Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi directed, yesterday, Wednesday, the resumption of work by oil companies in Kurdistan starting from today, Thursday, during his reception of a high-level delegation from Kurdistan.
Kurdistan Region’s oil exports have fallen from 200,000 barrels to 20,000 barrels due to attacks by Iraqi factions and Iranian forces, which have forced companies to halt their operations.
