No internal disputes - A framework confirms that ministerial portfolios will be finalized within daysInformation/Interview…
Iraq is currently witnessing the emergence of a number of important and sensitive issues, most notably the completion of Ali al-Zaidi’s government formation and the filling of the remaining ministerial posts, particularly the security ministries, in addition to economic and financial challenges, as well as developments in the regional landscape.
In this context, Information conducted an interview with Abdul Samad al-Zarkoushi, a member of the Coordination Framework, to discuss the most prominent of these issues.

Q: When will the remaining ministerial posts in Ali al-Zaidi’s government be decided?
A: A crucial meeting of the coordination framework will be held within the next two days, and this issue will be strongly addressed. We anticipate that if an agreement is reached, a parliamentary session may be convened this week to proceed with voting on the remaining ministerial positions. However, if no agreement is reached, next week will be decisive in this regard.

Q: Have the names of the candidates for the remaining ministerial portfolios been changed?
A: There are indications that some of the candidates’ names have been changed, particularly in the security ministries, but it is not possible to confirm at this time the names that will be put forward and agreed upon in the upcoming parliamentary session. The next few days will clarify the direction, but according to available information, the changes have affected between three and four ministerial portfolios.

Q: How will the names of candidates for the security ministries be finalized?
A: The security ministries, whether Interior or Defense, are considered sovereign and crucial ministries directly linked to security decisions. There is a trend within the coordination framework to grant Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi complete freedom to choose whomever he deems suitable and competent for these positions, given his role as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. However, it is not yet possible to confirm the names that will be finalized, as the matter awaits developments in the coming days.

Q: Are there disagreements within the Coordination Framework?
A: There are no disagreements, only differences of opinion, which is normal in any democratic political landscape. The Coordination Framework represents the largest and most important political bloc in the Iraqi political scene, and its mission is clearly to promote political stability. It played a clear role in expediting the formation of Ali al-Zaidi’s government. Therefore, what is happening is a difference of opinion on some issues, not disagreements.

Q: How does the Coordination Framework view the financial and economic crisis in Iraq?
A: The Coordination Framework recognizes the sensitivity of the current situation and its repercussions on the Iraqi economy. It maintains continuous monitoring of the financial and economic situation through ongoing meetings with the Prime Minister and supports any roadmap adopted by the government to correct the course of the economy and the financial situation. It will also support all decisions aimed at achieving financial and economic stability.

Q: How do you view the issue of the approximately 5,000 extremist terrorists brought from Syria to Iraq?
A: This is a very important issue, and the decision was made by the previous government for security reasons related to national security. These individuals belong to various Arab and foreign nationalities, and government reports confirm that the security around their detention centers is secure. We expect the current government to develop a roadmap for resolving this issue. Those proven to have shed Iraqi blood must be tried, while the others should be transferred to their countries of origin according to their nationalities. The most important thing is to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
