No exceeding the constitutional deadline... Intense political activity to produce a consensus candidate for Prime MinisterInformation/Baghdad…
Political parties within the Coordination Framework are working to finalize the selection of the Prime Minister and announce his name within the 15-day constitutional deadline, which expires next Sunday. The Framework continues its political efforts among various parties to reach a consensus candidate who enjoys broad support and acceptance for the position. This will be achieved either through a vote by the Framework’s leaders or by allowing the Framework’s members of parliament to vote for the candidate they deem suitable. Discussions are currently underway within the Framework, and negotiations are taking place to agree on a mechanism for finalizing the selection.

. Former MP Hassan Fad’am told Al-Ma’louma, “The Coordination Framework has its own convictions regarding the candidates proposed for the position of Prime Minister for the next phase, and it is impossible to definitively choose a specific name.”
He added, “Basim al-Badri has been put forward as a competing candidate within the Coordination Framework, and the competition may ultimately narrow down to al-Sudani and al-Badri, with one of them being chosen for the position of Prime Minister.”
He explained that “the constitutional deadline for selecting the prime minister and presenting him to the president expires next Sunday, but the Coordination Framework is determined to finalize this matter, select a candidate, and present him for the task of forming the new government and announcing its program.”
For his part, former MP Jassim Mohammed confirmed to Al-Maalomah that “there are four parties within the framework seeking to have their candidate appointed prime minister and tasked with forming the government for the upcoming period, in addition to Maliki, who is also a candidate for this position.”
He continued, “All the candidates close to the position have support within the framework that does not exceed 60 percent, especially the four candidates closest to the position. Therefore, there remains disagreement regarding the candidate who will be chosen for the premiership.”
He pointed out that “if the Coordination Framework agrees to withdraw Maliki’s nomination, it is likely that the candidate for the position will be someone other than the former prime ministers (Sudani, Maliki, and Abadi).”
In a related development, MP and spokesperson for the Reconstruction and Development Coalition, Firas al-Muslawi, explained in a televised statement monitored by Al-Maalomah that “the Coordination Framework is continuing its political efforts to agree on a mechanism for deciding on the candidate for the position of Prime Minister.” He pointed out that “his coalition prefers to leave the choice to the coalition’s MPs to vote in favor of one of the proposed candidates for Prime Minister, in order to finalize the matter and present the candidate to the President of the Republic for his appointment to form the new government.”
