The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Masrour Barzani, confirmed on Wednesday that no agreement had been reached regarding the position of “President of Iraq,” amid disagreements between the two main Kurdish parties over who should hold the post.
Barzani said, “We have not yet reached an agreement on the position of President of the Republic of Iraq.”
He added, “We have submitted two proposals to resolve this matter.”
Nineteen candidates are vying for the position, having received approval from the Iraqi parliament and the Supreme Federal Court after fulfilling the nomination requirements for the position according to the Iraqi constitution.
