On Thursday, Trade Minister Mustafa Nizar Al-Ani announced the opening of 46 storage complexes in Nineveh Governorate, coinciding with the start of the wheat marketing season. He emphasized the adoption of new procedures aimed at regulating the marketing process and protecting farmers from “bargaining and extortion.”

Al-Ani said during a joint press conference held in Mosul, in the presence of Nineveh Governor Abdul Qadir Al-Dakhil and a number of officials, and attended by Shafaq News Agency, that his visit to the province came to launch the marketing season for the wheat crop and to open the storage complexes for Nineveh, which number 46 complexes, within the “Sanabel Al-Iraq.. Our Food Security” campaign.

He added that the Ministry of Trade has prepared an integrated plan to accommodate the quantities of wheat marketed during the current season, stressing that the ministry will work to support farmers and overcome the obstacles that they may face during the marketing and receiving operations.

He pointed to the adoption of an electronic system for pre-booking in cooperation with the local government in Nineveh, explaining that the new mechanism differs from previous seasons and aims to organize delivery operations and facilitate procedures for farmers.

The minister explained that the new system will help reduce cases of “bargaining and extortion” that farmers may be exposed to, as well as ensure the smooth flow of marketing and crop receiving operations.

For his part, Nineveh Governor Abdul Qadir Al-Dakhil confirmed that the province is witnessing an “exceptional” agricultural season, noting that the cultivated areas have exceeded four million dunams.

He added that the local government is working in coordination with the Ministry of Trade to implement the agricultural and marketing policy approved by the federal government, in order to ensure the success of the current season, protect the rights of farmers, and market their crops in the best possible way.
