On Saturday, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani affirmed his full support for Prime Minister-designate Ali Faleh al-Zaidi in forming a “strong government” that meets the aspirations of Iraqis and enhances stability in the country.
Nechirvan Barzani said in a post on the “X” platform that he discussed with Al-Zaidi and his accompanying delegation the challenges of the sensitive stage that Iraq is going through, expressing his wishes for him to “success in this national responsibility to serve Iraq and its people.”
In a statement, the Kurdistan Region Presidency said that the meeting held in Erbil addressed a number of issues, foremost among them the issue of forming the new Iraqi government.
The statement added that both sides stressed the importance of strengthening dialogue between political forces with the aim of forming a government that serves all components of Iraq and meets their aspirations.
The two sides also discussed regulating relations between Erbil and Baghdad, and ways to resolve problems within the framework of constitutional principles and applicable laws.
On Saturday morning, Al-Zaidi arrived in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, where he met with Nechirvan Barzani, Masrour Barzani, and Masoud Barzani. He then headed to Sulaymaniyah to discuss the formation of the next federal government, the government program, and the cabinet.
