On Monday, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani condemned the attack targeting the office of the region’s Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, and addressed a message to the federal government in Baghdad.
According to a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, Barzani condemned in the strongest terms the attacks that targeted, this morning, the office of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, and the residence of the head of the Protection Agency (Security), stressing that “these attacks are completely unacceptable and constitute a dangerous escalation.”
The regional president called on the federal government to “assume its responsibilities and constitutional obligations in maintaining the country’s security and stability, to ensure that such attacks are not repeated.”
He pointed out that “protecting Iraq’s sovereignty, security and stability, including the Kurdistan Region, is a shared responsibility, and everyone must work to de-escalate and end tensions.”
For its part, the headquarters of Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani said in a statement, received by Shafaq News Agency, “We condemn in the strongest terms the drone attack that targeted, this morning, from the other side of the Iranian border, the Prime Minister’s office and the residence of the Director of the Protection Agency (Security) in Pirmam.”
He added, “The Kurdistan Region has never been a party to these wars and tensions in the region, and these unjustified attacks, which cannot be excused, are an attempt to destabilize the Kurdistan Region. Certainly, the use of drones and missiles will not solve the problems.”
Earlier today, the Counter-Terrorism Service in the Kurdistan Region announced that the office of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in Erbil was targeted by an Iranian drone .
