Diyar Aqrawi, a member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), confirmed on Saturday that the results of the recent elections in the Kurdistan Region clearly showed that no Kurdish party secured a majority of 50% + 1 seats, necessitating the formation of the next government based on genuine understanding and alliance.
Aqrawi told the Information Agency that “the current political landscape precludes the principle of unilateral decision-making pursued by some parties, most notably the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP),” noting that “the KDP’s claim of winning the most seats is contrary to reality.”
He revealed that “there are ongoing communications between the PUK and the KDP regarding holding bilateral negotiations concerning the formation of the new regional government,” emphasizing that “the PUK absolutely rejects marginalization or exclusion by other Kurdish parties.”
Earlier, MP Mohammed al-Shammari confirmed that the ongoing disputes among Kurdish forces regarding the distribution of positions and powers are behind the delay in forming the Kurdistan Regional Government, despite months having passed since the elections and initial political agreements.
