MP Alia Nassif called on national media outlets on Thursday to play their role in publishing documents and maps that prove the Iraqi people’s historical rights to oil fields and maritime routes with Kuwait, stressing that this is an issue that directly affects the country’s sovereignty.
Nassif told the Information Agency, “Preserving Iraq’s oil wealth and maritime rights is not merely a technical matter, but an integral part of the state’s sovereignty, which cannot be compromised.” She emphasized the need to reveal the facts to local and international public opinion.
She added, “There are documents that prove Iraq’s right to vital areas and shared fields, and the media should highlight them to support the Iraqi position in any negotiations or international forums.” She pointed out that “remaining silent about these violations has caused significant damage to the economy and national sovereignty.”
Nassif explained that “the current stage requires cooperation between political and media entities to ensure that not an inch of territorial waters or a drop of oil from the shared fields is lost,” calling on the government to take serious action to protect these resources.
