The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Naeem Al-Aboudi, said today, Monday, that Iraq seeks to possess clean nuclear energy, and is cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency, to establish peaceful nuclear reactors for research purposes, and to qualify key leaders to manage the nuclear energy file in Iraq.
Iraq was one of the developed countries in its quest to possess peaceful nuclear energy and all its preparations in the current period to enter the system of those countries.
The previous years were a black page and all facilities were destroyed, but Iraqi scientists are still present and we will be able to restore the right to have nuclear energy in Iraq that is used peacefully.
Two weeks ago, a specialized team from the International Nuclear Energy Agency visited Baghdad and the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission to develop work programs and strategic plans.
We are now working with the International Atomic Energy Agency in several aspects, as follows:
The technical aspect of fighting cancer, and we have advanced in this aspect despite the increase in the number of people suffering from tumors, but we have been able to do so.
Working on the zero nuclear reactor to train students and then converting it into a research reactor that serves strategic issues and scientific research.
We are working with the Agency to create key leaders to run the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission in the future, and this is a strategic goal.
Treating nuclear waste from previous wars.
Creating a nuclear reactor in electrical use and peaceful aspects of it.
